Elliott was a former executive for Sak’s Fifth Avenue and president of Bretano’s before starting his own business, Museum Quality Service, while his wife Evelyn created and headed her own data management company Data Operation Incorporated. As collectors, the two shared a predilection for modern art and design. Through this aesthetic, they sought to capture the hope and spirit of the postwar era. Rounding out the sale will be selections from the Estates of Peter Knoll and fashion executive Margot Rogoff.A strength of the Lang Estate is an impressive collection of 20th century works on paper. Coinciding with a recently opened monographic exhibition of his work at the Museum of Modern Art, two Joan Miró lithographs will be offered: “Centennaire pour l’Imprimerie Mourlot,” from 1953, and “La Cascade” from 1964. Buyers will have a rare opportunity to acquire Stuart Davis’ (American, 1892-1964) 1931 lithograph “Two Figures and El (Sixth Avenue El No. 2).” From an edition of only 25, the image is a classic example of how Davis depicted urban life filtered through his distinctly modern American point of view. Also included in the sale is a handsome black and white Pablo Picasso lithograph entitled “Composition,” from 1948, Josef Albers’ “Variant III” from the 1966 “Ten Variants” portfolio, and a Lyonel Feininger woodcut, “Gemelrode.” Additional fine art includes two large abstract expressionist oil on canvas paintings by Harry Kramer, Eduardo Arranz-Bravo’s neo-figurative, “Home Obsession at Sallant,” and Agustin Fernandez’ “Homage to the painting Mona Lisa.” Also included are two photographs by Aaron Siskind, and a charming embroidered picture depicting a chair by contemporary artist David Byrne.Mid-century modern and other 20th century furniture to be offered includes a Paul Evans “Stalagmite” Brutalist glass top coffee table, a Samson Berman mid-century modern teak sideboard / credenza, a pair of Hans Wegner for Johannes Hansen ‘JH501’ open armchairs, two Milo Baughman chrome armchairs with matching ottoman, two Bellini for Cassina “Break” sofas, a Karl Springer polished steel and brass armchair, and a pair of Pair of Tommi Parzinger mid-century modern maple and glass end tables.Complementing the furniture is a handsome assortment of contemporary bronze sculpture including works by Kevin Barrett, Martin Abbe, Roberto Esteves and Steve Tyree. Leonard Janklow’s “Kinetic Art,” is a colorful addition to the sale and comprises a striped, oblong box with four acrylic cylindrical dangles. Jordan,” an Isamu Noguchi manner carved wood sculpture, and a mid-century modern Brutalist Don Quixote. Fine jewelry includes a 14K hinged bangle ornately decorated with rubies, sapphires, emeralds, turquoise and pearls, a 14K bracelet with whimsical charms, and a large selection of sterling silver jewelry designed by Angela Cummings and Elsa Peretti.
