The Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) at IIT-Kharagpur has experienced an exceptional last month–acquiring the 3rd spot in Management Research in the 2019 QS University Rankings and reporting a 100% placement of their 26th batch of graduates!
The QS World University Rankings rank the world’s top institutions in individual subject areas. These rankings are based upon global surveys of academics and employers. Since this ranking was based on the quality of management research done in business schools, the survey used research data from Elsevier’s Scopus, which is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. Parameters included in the determining factors of the ranking were citations per research paper and the impact of the research in a subject area. “On an average, the 25 faculty members of VGSoM annually publish 75 papers on case studies in peer-reviewed international journals. The school is backed by the interdisciplinary engineering, science and mathematics platforms of IIT-Kharagpur, which present a unique opportunity to its students to pursue electives in a variety of management areas.” (J. More than 65 leading corporate companies participated in the placement interviews which culminated in 139 job offers—including 31 pre-placements (PPO’s). The 65 companies represented brought both companies that have been to KGP before and a handful of new organizations. The Dean of VGSoM, Prabina Rajib expressed her elation, “The outstanding results were possible because of various factors like quality of academics, admission process, and focus on corporate cum academic competitions.
