EPIC Seeks Release of Mueller Report in Federal Court Tuesday Morning

United States, District of Columbia, Washington – 04-08-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — Post-Hearing Teleconference Tuesday at 1:00 pm

Monday, April 8 at 10:00 am EDT

The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) will appear before Judge Reggie Walton in federal district court in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, April 9, to argue for the public release of the Mueller Report.

EPIC President Marc Rotenberg said, “The public has been kept in the dark about the most consequential investigation in recent U.S. history. This is not acceptable. The public has the right to know the contents of the Mueller Report.”

EPIC filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice just hours after the Special Counsel delivered the final report concerning Russian interference to the Attorney General. EPIC’s lawsuit follows a Freedom of Information Act request the organization made back in November 2018.

EPIC Senior Counsel Alan Butler explained, “We are asking the Court to order the Department of Justice to make the Muller Report available no later than April 15. EPIC’s proposal is consistent with the statements the Attorney General has already made to Congress.”

Mr. Butler continued, “We are also asking the Court to make the summaries that the Mueller team actually prepared available today. The Attorney General’s version of the report has contributed to public confusion. We believe that the actual summaries should be made available immediately. We have also asked the court to schedule the release of other related records.”

EPIC brought the first lawsuit in the nation for the release of the Mueller Report. EPIC v. Department of Justiceis the most recent of several cases EPIC has filed to understand the scope of Russian interference in the 2016 election. In an earlier case, EPIC v. ODNI, EPIC obtained a classified report which confirmed that the Russians pursued a “multi-pronged” attack on the US elections. And in EPIC v. FBI, EPIC learned that the Bureau failed to follow its own procedures to notify the DNC and the RNC of malicious hacking of their systems.

EPIC has scheduled a post-hearing briefing at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 9. Online: https://zoom.us/j/4459113768 or Call: +1 646 558 8656, ID: 445 911 3768

EPIC’s case for the release of the Mueller Report is EPIC v. DOJ, No. 19-810 (D.D.C.).
