United States, California, Oakland – 04-24-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (www.ebi.school) has announced the appointment of Dr. Paola Clark,as its next head of school, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Clark will succeed Jon Fulk, who will have completed his 11th year as head of EBI.
“The EBI community is thrilled to have Dr. Clark as our next head of school,” said board chair Eric Elia. “The leaders of the future must be great communicators and collaborators who will need to adapt to a changing world and workplace throughout their lives. Dr. Clark is an innovator who is student-centered and committed to our mission, making her the ideal leader to carry the program into the future.”
Dr. Clark understands the value of language immersion education and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, as student, educator, administrator and IB examiner. “EBI is one of four independent schools in the United States that provides a PK-8 IB education in a Spanish-English immersion program and the only one in the Bay Area. It is an honor and privilege to have been appointed as EBI’s next leader,” said Dr. Clark. “We often hear that the world is becoming a smaller place as a result of globalization. I firmly believe that as the world continues to become smaller, EBI becomes bigger, stronger, and more relevant because of its mission and core values.”
Dr. Clark brings more than 18 years of experience as an educator and administrator to EBI. At present, she is the Grade School Principal at Notre Dame de Sion School in Kansas City, MO. She has also held several roles at independent schools (including three IB schools) in the U.S. and Lima, Peru. Those roles have included Middle School Division Head, Director of Auxiliary Programs, Dean of Student Life, Curriculum Coordinator, Science Chairperson, higher education consultant, instructor for pre- and in-service teachers, and science faculty. She is also an IB Examiner.
A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Clark attended an English-Spanish bilingual independent school in Lima, Peru, where she obtained her IB Diploma. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Universidad Nacional Agraria la Molina in Lima, Peru; a Master of Science degree in Science Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. She has also completed coursework in Educational Leadership at the graduate level, is an NAIS Aspiring Heads Fellow, and is currently pursuing an Executive Scholar Certificate in Nonprofit Management at the Kellogg School of Management–Northwestern University.
In addition, EBI is expanding its program to officially launch its International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) for Spanish Language Learners in fall 2019. EBI is currently accepting applications for incoming 6th graders with limited to no prior Spanish experience. Students with demonstrated strength in academics and a curiosity of language and culture will now have access to an academically rigorous, international education that inspires them to engage with a changing world. “I am excited that the new middle school program will broaden our reach in the Bay Area. We look forward to welcoming students who seek an outstanding, international middle school education without previous Spanish experience,” Dr. Clark said.
