“I am very excited to release my single titled Chaand Ka Chilka, meaning Peel of the Moon. This is the first song that I wrote for my upcoming album. For this single, I really wanted to go back to my roots of rich Hindi lyrical form and western pop electronic compositions. The music video in particular is very special to me. I had the pleasure of working with Pulkit Datta, to help encapsulate my story and vision.”, said Subhi.
Subhi also released a music video for the single which is available on Youtube: Watch NowAs an emerging Indian American artist Subhi was born in New Delhi, studied in New York and now lives in Chicago. Both the Indian and American cultures define Subhi as an individual and as an artist. She embraces this contrast and acknowledges that she should not have to choose between the two cultures. This album is a celebration of her two cultures and the world we live in. Half of the songs in this upcoming album are written in Hindi and half in English.Subhi’s second album is currently in the works and partially funded by The City Of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events. She is one of the few artists who was selected to receive the 2019 Individual Artists Program (IAP) grant.
“When I think of an album, I think of stories. Each song I write has a story to tell. As an Indian-American singer-songwriter, there was a time when I struggled to balance the two cultures that were a part of my world – my Indian, Bollywood culture and the American culture,” said Subhi.
Last year, Subhi performed at the world renowned Kennedy Center of Performing Arts (Washington D.C.) and opened for the band, ‘Red Baraat’ during their Festival of Colors Midwest US Tour. With Subhi’s multicultural-inspired performances, she became a speaker and performer for ‘Talks at Google’ series at Google Headquarters (Mountain View, California), a featured artist for ABC’s Emmy Award winning annual show, ‘Asian Influences’, receiving an invitation to perform live at ABC7 Studio in Chicago, and a featured speaker and performer for TEDx Naperville (Chicago).
