Tanya Smith selected as Empowered Woman of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals IAOTP

Smith, Global Speaker, Trainer, High Performance Coach, Founder & CEO of Life in Quarters was just recently selected as Empowered Woman of the Year for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry.  

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few women are chosen for this distinction based on their years of experience in the field, professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, and contributions to their communities.  These are truly incredibly talented women who have dedicated their life to their work and have had a lifetime of achievement and success in a male dominated industry!

Tanya M. Smith is being recognized for this achievement for dedicating over 20 years of service to our nation. Her civilian experience and diverse education have demonstrated leadership and success in a male dominated industry. Tanya has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in her field, not only as a High Performance Coach, but also as a global motivational speaker, workshop facilitator, and inspiring trainer and leader.  Prior to her role of CEO and Founder of Life in Quarters, Tanya retired from the US Army in November of 2016 after 24 years of total service. She began her military career as an Army Reserve Radiologic Technician. She resigned from her position as Director for New Jersey’s largest residential program for male juvenile offenders and decided to experience the Army on a full-time basis. Her impressive repertoire of prior roles and duties included serving as a Silent Warrior with the Military Intelligence Branch where Tanya was placed in both traditional and nontraditional Army leadership positions. She was deployed to Bosnia, Herzegovina and Iraq in support of peacekeeping and combat operations. She was also the Command Language Program Manager where she oversaw the training and development for over 350 linguists in 14 different language disciplines.

Life in Quarters is a leadership and training consultancy that has offices in Upper Marlboro, MD and Springfield, VA. The company offers services globally and in all 50 states. Services include focused, insightful and empowering training, facilitating groups, seminars and workshops. They aid in coaching executives and professionals to maximize their potential, assist organizations and individuals with improving leadership intelligence and communications in order to achieve any goal. Tanya’s civilian education includes Associate degrees in Spanish, Intelligence Studies, and Applied Science. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Arts and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership. She also completed the University of Pennsylvania’s Master Resiliency Trainer Certificate program and Cornell’s Executive Leadership Certificate programs
in High Performance Leadership and Executive Leadership. The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami, stated “Choosing Tanya for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make. Throughout her illustrious career Tanya has received numerous awards, accolades and has been recognized for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry. For 2019 she is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and will receive the Empowered Woman of the Year Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). For 2018 she was selected as Top Development Coach of the Year by IAOTP and featured as a Woman Achiever with the International Women’s Group. In 2015 Tanya and her team were selected and recognized by the Department of Defense as having the best program over all the US military language programs. The Department of Defense presented her team with the Command Language Program Award.

Looking back, Tanya attributes her success to her experience, disciplined mission focus, mentors she has had along the way, and staying passionate in all her endeavors. Tanya says she has been blessed, she loves doing what she is doing and feels this is just the beginning. For the future, she will continue to grow as a professional and wants to continue to influence
