On June 14th, 2019 The Hawaii Patients Union will celebrate Hawaii’s Medical Cannabis Day with medical and industry professionals and VIPs in Hilo, Hawaii.
On June 14th, 2000 Governor Benjamin Cayetano (D), signed into law a bill that would forever help protect patients who engage in the medical use of cannabis from local and state criminal prosecution. The Hawaii legislature became the first state legislature to accept the medical use of cannabis for the treatment of certain debilitating conditions under the supervision of a certifying physician.Cayetano wanted Hawaii to become the “health care center of the Pacific” and believed more states would follow Hawaii’s lead in accepting and legalizing the medical use of cannabis.For more than 25,000 licensed patients in Hawaii the ability to choose their own medicine is a milestone in their personal healthcare. One Friday June 14th we will celebrate survivors their loved ones and our friends and ohana who have passed from Cannabis treatable diseases. We will also support our current and future patients by recognizing that the medical use of cannabis in Hawaii is currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, which means that Hawaii’s Medical Use of Cannabis Program does not violate federal law.The Hawaii Patients Union will join patients, caregivers, veterans, medical professionals, farmers, medicine makers and small business owners interested in hemp and Cannabis at the Third Annual Hawaii Cannabis Awareness Conference on June 15th and 16th at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium.“It is up to all of us to let our elected officials know that we are unwilling to continue living under the false assumption that our Medical Use of Cannabis Program is violating federal law.” – Clifton Otto MDEvent organizers have pledged 50% of the net proceeds from the event to the Hawaii Patients Union 501c(3).
