MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS ASK CITIZENS TO NOMINATE UNSUNG HEROES FOR SPECIAL HONOR

United States, Virginia, Arlington – 08-07-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — America’s 71 living Medal of Honor recipients want citizens across the nation to nominate unsung heroes to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Citizen Honors Awards. The awards, sponsored by The Boeing Company, will be presented in a ceremony on National Medal of Honor Day, Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

“Today my fellow recipients and I are asking Americans to nominate their hometown heroes for this special recognition,” said Drew Dix, Medal of Honor recipient and president of the Society. “The Society created the Citizen Honors awards to recognize ordinary Americans who demonstrate courage and selfless service through their actions, making a difference in the lives of others,” he continued, “and we’re excited about recognizing more citizen heroes this year.” The Society created the Citizen Honors Awards in 2008. To be eligible for consideration, nominees must be U.S. citizens who are 18 years of age or older. Citizen Honors nomination applications, available at www.themedalofhonor.com, will be accepted until November 1, 2019. Medal of Honor recipients carefully review all nominations and select Citizen Honors winners. Two citizens are recognized for single acts of courage and one for an act of selfless service. A Young Hero award is also presented to a youth under the age of 18 who displays exceptional courage or service to others. The top 20 finalists will be announced February 2020. About the Congressional Medal of Honor Society: The Congressional Medal of Honor Society (www.cmohs.org) was chartered by the Congress in 1958 to create a brotherhood among the living Medal of Honor recipients, to protect and uphold the dignity and honor of the Medal, to promote patriotism and love of country, and to inspire our youth to become worthy dedicated citizens of our nation. Its membership consists exclusively of those individuals who have received the Medal of Honor. Today, there are 71 living recipients of the Medal of Honor. The Society is unique in that its membership hopes that there will be no need to welcome new inductees.
