BASEBALL & SOFTBALL MECCA SPRINGS UP IN OKLAHOMA AS HELLAS INSTALLS 17 FIELDS

United States, Oklahoma, Elk City – 10-14-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — The home state of Mickey Mantle is getting a baseball and softball facelift that will make Oklahoma one of the desired locations for sports enthusiasts all over the country. Hellas Construction is installing 700,000 square feet of Major Play™ Fusion XP2 turf with thatch in Elk City, which is about 110 miles west of Oklahoma City and 150 miles east of Amarillo, Texas.

All ten baseball and softball fields will feature alternating green colored panels. Historic Ackley Park is also featuring alternating green colored panels and this city owned facility is where the Class 5A Elk City High School baseball team currently plays. Six tee ball fields will be adjacent to the baseball and softball complexes. The $5.5 Million project will be a huge economic boom for the state of Oklahoma. “We are just so excited for Hellas to be able to bring a quality playing surface like Major Play™ specifically designed for baseball and softball turf to the city of Elk City, Oklahoma,” says Hellas Business Development Manager David E. Fisher.

Elk City lost 12 games last year due to rain that made their natural grass fields unplayable. The City Manager of Elk City Lee Litterell says, “These fields allow us the opportunity to increase the length of our seasons and perhaps even add more leagues for all age groups”. “We’re excited to get started and completed,” Litterell adds, “We feel like we have the best turf product with Hellas. This will give us an advantage that some of the other larger communities don’t have.”

What makes this Major Play Fusion XP2 turf special is the combination of fibers, which requires less rubber infill, allowing for a truer bounce of the baseball for infielders. Major Play combined with Fusion XP2 is designed for outfielders to get more consistent bounces from the ball after it is hit. REALFILL™ infill or SBR crumb rubber, completed the Hellas turf system. Other amenities provided by Hellas include covered bleachers and dugouts throughout the complex.

Major Play precisely emulates natural grass and clay without the maintenance cost associated with both. Each area of the field is tailor-made for pitching, hitting, sliding, ball bounces and speed consistent with the best natural grass ballparks. Hellas offers high-density replaceable carpet with shorter pile height for high traffic areas where sliding takes place. The soft, yet firm, underfoot prevent the turf from buckling in extreme temperatures. The skin area or infield clay is also Major Play by Hellas and very reliable when it comes to speed and consistency in the ball roll, eliminating “bad hops”.
