On November 17th, Auctions at Showplace will present choice selections of fine art, furniture, silver, jewelry, and decorative arts all fresh to the market from New York City estates. 

A bevy of contemporary paintings by hotly sought after artists includes “Enter In,” a 1999 abstract composition by Phil Frost, a Till Friewald monumental watercolor on paper depicting a photorealist portrait of a man, a 1995 Stephen Ellis oil and alkyd on canvas, and a Lance Goldsmith acrylic on canvas. Large scale paintings by in demand contemporary Chinese artists include works by Zhang Ting Qun, Wang Chengyun, and Liang Hongli. 

 Superlative mid-century modern furniture hitting the auction block includes a Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller lounge chair with ottoman, an Eileen Gray “Bibendum” black leather armchair, a pair of Marcel Breuer Wassily Model #B3, a suite of Paul Frankl style blonde wood case pieces, and a Harvey Probber style credenza. Those in search of more traditional furniture will find a German Baroque Revival walnut marquetry commode, two 18th century Italian Renaissance style two-piece oak cabinets with iron scrollwork, a William and Mary style chest on stand with marquetry, and an impressive 19th century Dutch marquetry armoire.

Luxury timepieces include a rare Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold wristwatch with rectangular case circa 1960, an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Geneve driver’s watch, an 18K yellow gold Omega automatic Turler Geneve wristwatch, a Fougeray Art Deco 14K white gold diamonds and onyx wristwatch, a rare Longines 13ZN chronograph stainless steel wristwatch, and a Harvard split-second chronograph open-face pocket watch. Highlights in fine silver include a Taxco Mexican silver six-piece tea service including serving tray and other handsome pieces by Tiffany & Co., Gorham, and Royal Danish. 

As usual, Showplace is proud to offer fresh to market merchandise from distinguished addresses in the New York City and Metropolitan area. From an East 62nd street estate comes a collection of Middle and Near Eastern antiquities including two Kashan Persian turquoise glazed stoneware tiles, an Indian Koftgari Dhal brass and metal parade shield, Nishapur Islamic lusterware pottery, and more. An unrivaled collection of Karen Karnes art pottery comes directly from a personal friend of the artist. Karnes, known for her salt-glazed stoneware pottery, was a student of Black Mountain College where she and her husband eventually became potters-in-residence. This sale will feature a number of her vessels including two table lamps and a number of vases and her signature cut-lid covered jars. And, from a private collection comes an impressive grouping of Continental bronze mantel clocks with exquisite Neoclassical ornamentation.
