United States, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh – 11-20-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — The East Liberty Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses are pleased to celebrate the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday® by hosting welcome table and offering substantial discounts as an American Express® Neighborhood Champion.
East Liberty, Pittsburgh Pa – : East Liberty Chamber of Commerce announced today that, as a member of the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program, it will host a welcome table and members will offer shopping discounts as part of Small Business Saturday, which takes place on Nov 30. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday celebrates the impact small businesses have on communities across the country.
Supported by a small biz buzz grant from the Urban Redevelopment Authority, over the last month the Chamber has been rallying it’s members encouraging them to support Small Business Saturday with extra discounts and personal service. The Chamber has supported these efforts with a social media campaign and marketing materials encouraging the community to shop local and shop small on November 30th. The chamber will welcome customers at its table in the Gallery on Penn, a Catapult program and small business incubator that supports emerging local start-up retail business owners. Located at 5935 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh Pa 15206, The Catapult program began with a mission aligned with the Chamber: Give small businesses in East Liberty space and support while they fine-tune their products and services for a rapidly changing neighborhood. Now, they join other East Liberty Business owners in bringing local quality services and products to it’s community.
This year’s celebration is the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday, marking a decade of support from American Express for local business owners. Since it started in 2010, consumers have reported spending an estimated $103 billion across all Small Business Saturdays combined. 1 That’s $103 billion toward helping communities thrive, spent over just nine days alone.
In order to drive shoppers to Shop Small® this Nov 30, The East Liberty Chamber of Commerce is participating in the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program to spotlight small businesses and the impact they have on communities. An average two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in that local community.2 That means shopping small could help bring things like better schools, smoother roads, and new jobs to neighborhoods across the country.
All merchants and consumers are encouraged to learn more about Small Business Saturday and how to get involved , and even download customize-able marketing materials by visiting ShopSmall.com and www.eastlibertychamber.org. #smallbizsat

1 This spend statistic is an aggregate of the average spend as reported by consumers in surveys commissioned by American Express reporting spend habits on Small Business Saturday of consumers who were aware of the day. It does not reflect actual receipts or sales. Each such survey was conducted among a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults. The surveys had an overall margin of error of between +/- 2.0% and +/- 5.47%, at the 95% level of confidence. The data was projected from the samples based on then-current U.S. Census estimates of the U.S. adult population (18+).
2 The statistic cited is an estimate based on calculations using data on small businesses with under 100 employees from the U.S. Small Business Administration, as reported in the 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study conducted by Econsult Solutions, Inc. (ESI) on behalf of American Express.
