Puddingstone Place Launches Innovative School Program for Students on Autism Spectrum

DANVERS, MA – 12-09-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — Puddingstone Place has a developed its School Outreach CompendiumUsing the Visual Immersion System, (VIS™) Within The Classroom.  This program and instructional guide offer training and support to public or private schools or other educational organizations which provide services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities.  Puddingstone Place is working with schools and families by using the latest technology, research, and materials to bring about an optimal learning environment. The VIS™ is a proven method for supporting communication and teaching language skills to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

The Visual Immersion System™ is a research based, practical and comprehensive framework and instructional philosophy, developed by Dr. Howard Shane and Boston Children’s Hospital. After two decades of research and clinical implementation, the VIS™ is now being utilized in many schools.  The VIS™ includes a strong focus on the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to help promote measurable progress in learners with a broad range of diagnoses, profiles, communication profiles and goals. It is designed to support, complement and enhance the use of spoken language and instruction by employing the effective, combined use of visuals, including videos and photographs with technology.

Puddingstone Place has extended its clinical model into a unique classroom program that integrates the underlying VIS™ principles of visual supports and technology into a school’s existing curriculum. This approach clarifies each lesson with understandable visual accommodations delivered through state of the art technology. The classroom model was founded on the principle of cooperation between the special education teacher, Speech Language Pathologist, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, other school personnel and the family. This unique educational approach provides a strong technology curriculum for use in the schools as well as in the home – what Puddingstone considers the perfect learning eco-system.

“It’s life changing!  The Visual Immersion System has been life changing for both the children and their families. Through the use of this program the children increased their working knowledge of language and concepts as well as learned how to express their wants and needs.  The VIS allowed our students to understand adult expectations both in school and at home and gave them the communication tools to ultimately become more self-sufficient and independent in academics and activities of daily living,” said Lisa Miori-Dinneen, Assistant Superintendent for Special Services, Fayetteville-Manlius School District

Puddingstone Place, LLC is creating a nationwide network of Centers that provides an innovative treatment approach to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.  This evidence based program, known as the Visual Immersion System™ or VIS™, was developed at Boston Children’s Hospital and licensed exclusively to Puddingstone Place™.  Currently three centers in Massachusetts provide this innovative and proven program to enhance learning, communication, and independence.  It is life changing!
