Turnaround time is 24 hours after the lab receives a patient’s test sample, which is mailed back directly to the lab using your nearest FedEx or UPS after following the instructions in the test kit, including placing the specimen on the included cooling packs. People can order the YouHealth COVID-19 at-home test on the company’s website, but must answer questions about their basic health, symptoms and risk factors for the coronavirus disease though a survey completed after placing the order. A YouHealth affiliated doctor will authorize the test after reviewing these answers to determine if a person qualifies for testing, based on criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently, because COVID-19 tests are not plentiful in the U.S., doctors, including YouHealth physicians and medical providers, are trying to rule out other respiratory diseases like flu first, and only ordering tests for people with symptoms who also have other risk factors for infection, such as being in close contact with others who have been diagnosed.
If a YouHealth affiliated doctor authorizes the test, you will receive a test kit in the mail with detailed instructions on how to mail in an oral and nasal swab specimen directly to our lab partner’s federally certified lab in Atlanta. You will receive test results via secured email message or phone call within 24 hours of receipt by the lab of your specimen if you test positive for Covid-19. The tests are run on state of the art Thermo Fisher hospital-grade systems, which received FDA authorization this week.
