Enables Providers to Use Telecommunication Technology to Help Patients in Need
Argus Dental and Vision, a subsidiary of Aflac Incorporated, announced today the launch of a teledentistry initiative to allow providers to continue to provide emergency care during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Leveraging teledentistry offers our network providers a safe way to expand access to emergency care for members during this unprecedented period,” said Nicholas M. Kavouklis, D.M.D., Argus Dental and Vision CEO and founder. The American Dental Association (ADA) has issued guidance to mitigate transmission of the virus while trying to prevent further overwhelming hospital emergency departments. With this guidance, Argus has chosen to reduce some of the restrictions to help its provider network expand access to care. Effective today, Argus will reimburse for CDT codes D0140 or D0170 regardless of member coverage, or whether performed as a normal in-office evaluation, or if performed telephonically and submitted with the corresponding D9995 or D9996 code, subject to plan limitations. This initiative is effective through April 30. All dental offices are expected to provide emergency services in their offices. Should this preferred option not be practical in certain circumstances then teledentistry may be utilized.With an uncertainty ahead for the return to business as usual, Argus may extend the reimbursement beyond April 30. If so, a separate communication will be sent notifying the Argus network of such a decision.
