PASADENA, CA – 07-02-2020 —

LaMar Anderson of Axum Creative present “Street Conscious” street photography workshops to begin July 12.

As a professional photographer, Anderson has traveled the world observing and photographing life in places like Egypt, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, New York, Japan and many more fascinating destinations. There is nothing quite like being a casual observer of people in their day-to-day routines and candidly photographing interesting moments as life unfolds.

On the heels of self-publishing his latest creative digest and project, “Beare Witness,” which focuses on authentic representation and positive visual narratives of people of African heritage. Anderson is looking to share his passion for street photography with others. He came up with the “Street Conscious” workshop idea a few years ago. As a result of the pandemic and social justice and human equality protests, he realized that his work was especially important now. Anderson said “Street Conscious” is a socially conscious approach to explore image-making and present narrative ideas which harness the power of imagery for positive social change.

In an era of social distancing, he wonders whether people will be able to return to comfortably being themselves in public.

Street photography happens everywhere, and Pasadena during the summer is an ideal place. In this workshop, he will share inspiration and give a short history of the art form by looking at some well-known street photographers like Gordon Parks, Eli Reed, Ruddy Roye, Jamel Shabazz. From there, participants will be guided through street walks covering blocks over hours after midday sunlight to take advantage of blue hour and sunset to show different approaches to photographing people on the street and ways to look at light, shadow, technique, and possibly even some street portraiture.

“The appreciation and practice of street photography is something that can expand your photographic eye which can be a great thing and certainly a whole lot of fun.” said Anderson. For more information, to signup for workshops, visit: https://bit.ly/2YPYTIZ
