New York City, NY – 04-24-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — Macao, China to Launch Inaugural “Art Macao” Event This Summer
From June through October, Macao will transform into an urban art gallery, simultaneously celebrating the arts and providing a platform for cultural exchange
This summer, “Art Macao,” a large-scale five-month-long international arts and cultural event, will launch in Macao, China. Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the event is a collaborative effort of The Macao Government Tourism Office and Macao’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, Education and Youth Affairs, and Higher Education Bureaus. With the support of several hotels and integrated resorts, and foreign consulates, the inaugural Art Macao will take place from June to October, imbuing the destination with artistic vitality and creativity.
Art Macao will bring an immersive cultural atmosphere to the streets of Macao, transforming the entire city into one massive art gallery. Curated collections of art will live in several of Macao’s hotels and resorts.
The event will commence at Art Macao’s main venue, The Macao Museum of Art. The opening will be supplemented with the launch of two large-scale pre-events in April:
The “Italian Renaissance Drawings from the British Museum,” to be held from April 12 to June 30, will feature a total of 52 drawings by 42 Italian Renaissance masters such as Mantegna, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael, and Rosso Fiorentino, probing into the important role of sketches played in their work and reflecting on the artists’ work throughout the period between 1470 and 1580. The event will not only coincide with the birth of Leonardo da Vinci, but also with the 500th anniversary of the renowned artist’s death. The exhibition will also serve as 3D printing’s (and other relevant technologies) Macanese debut, providing a tactile experience for those with visual impairments, thereby promoting that culture can and should be experienced without boundaries.
“Beauty in the New Era—Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China,” will be held from May 4 to July 28 and will feature nearly 90 masterpieces by various contemporary masters from the collection of the National Art Museum of China. Featured pieces will include masterpieces by Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian, Fu Baoshi, Li Keran, amongst others, providing a comprehensive overview of the development of Chinese art over the past hundred years.
Following April’s two pre-events, Art Macao will officially kick-off in June with the launch of several exhibitions organized and hosted by hotels and integrated resorts, and foreign consulates within the destination. Participating entities include the Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, MGM, Sands China Ltd., Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM), Wynn Macau, Limited, and Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited.
In tandem with its primary exhibitions, Art Macao will also feature a series of other events such as large-scale concerts by the Macao Orchestra and Macao Chinese Orchestra, signature programs hosted by the Macao Cultural Centre, visual arts exhibitions curated by Macao’s higher education institutions, the International Youth Music Festival, the International Youth Dance Festival, and the International Youth Drama Festival.
Collectively, these events will help develop the city into a world-class exchange platform for culture and the arts in a memorable summer of artistic celebration for both residents and tourists alike.
